Over 600,000 Mac computers infected with a trojan

As Apple products become more and more popular, their computers are growing to be a big target for malicious attacks. Most recently, over 600,000 Mac computers were infected with a malicious software called BackDoor.Flashback.39. (CNET)

Dr. Web, a Russian antivirus company reported the evolution and infection of this trojan, which is spread by users visiting infected websites. Once downloaded, the trojan asks users for their administrator password, and infects the computer accordingly. Its goal is to harvest personal information, such as passwords, to sell or use maliciously.

Instructions on how to determine if your Mac is infected has been released by security company F-Secure, and Apple has released a patch that fixes the Java vulnerabilities exploited by the Flashback trojan.
